The exhibition presents five emerging artists in Asian contemporary art field. They show the warmth of Chinese fighting against the COVID-19. Our life are paused by the virus, meanwhile we rethink about the value of life and a new perception of nature.
In the beginning of 2020, the sudden coronavirus makes everything paused when everyone in China is look forward to celebrating and preparing for the most important festival - Chinese New Year. There is no more crowded in the streets, instead of people dwelling at home in February. We could see the desperate efforts of medical workers, the construction workers who are working days and nights to build hospitals, and many volunteers fighting against time to save more lives through TV and Internet.

LIFE
In the past, the streets of Shanghai were full of vitality . As one of the young artists who are cultivated by Shanghai government, Liao Yang has great potential in the print field. His vivid silkscreen prints, both the traffic near the Oriental Pearl Tower and the life stories in the alley, show the eternal ordinary happiness. However, now it is the rarest visions.

With the emergency outbreak getting worse continuously, more and more people are willing to follow the government’s call, stay home to avoid the spread of the coronavirus. Hence, through Du Haijun’s windows, we can see the high level of modernity in contemporary China, but also the cities with the contradictions — homogenized, crowded, busy and repetitious. There are some changes due to virus, people take time off from their busy works and spend more time with their loved ones. Du uses painting as a tool to expose mysteries and secrets of cities, and each block of the building complexes in his paintings tells the stories of a city and its pressing restrictions of space. Behind the images of splendid shapes and colors are true stories of tens of thousands of families and individuals that offer clues to a practical interpretation of China’s social existence and current development.

Current Situation
Liu Ting’s artworks are not traditional academism, but based on her own sense of inner experience. On Valentine’s Day, masks couldn’t obstruct the love between people. Through Liu’s distinctive female perspective, the warmth never disappears in this crisis.

Also a gifted female artist who is good at Tempera. Based on her pursuit of poetic expression, Xiao Ying’s mixed media works on paper, blended with the technique of delineating and dyeing in traditional Chinese claborate-style painting, express the artist’s subjective emotions in simple compositions. She innovatively integrates elements of the east and her own understanding of art into her works to convey her care for nature and wish for simplicity.

Reflection
Ran Qiquan’s artworks representcomplete break and reconstruction of “paper”, which showsa pure sense of innovation. His works embody his thinking and comprehension of life. The dark color is not only a lament for the lost life in this epidemic, but also a reflection on the pain caused by irreverent nature. Perhaps, the only benefit of the coronavirus is that we should think about how to live in a harmony with nature.
